Ant Control in Josephine & Jackson Counties

Ant Control in Josephine & Jackson Counties

Southern Oregon homes deal with multiple ant species. Because each species behaves differently, the right treatment depends on proper identification and nest location. A strategy that works on one ant species can fail completely on another.

Carpenter Ant Control

Carpenter ants are not termites. They do not eat wood; however, they excavate it to create galleries and nesting space. As a result, homeowners often notice piles of sawdust-like material, known as frass, near areas of activity.

According to Oregon State University’s Solve Pest Problems program, carpenter ants excavate wood to form nests and can create structural issues, especially where moisture has softened the material (OSU Extension, 2025). In addition, frass pushed out of nest openings – inside or outside the home – is a common warning sign.

Field experience across the Rogue Valley shows that carpenter ants often travel along edges, siding lines, and even utility lines to access wall penetrations. Therefore, visible ants may be far from the main colony.

Sweet Ants & Asphalt Ants

Ant Extermination | Grants Pass

Sweet ants and asphalt ants behave differently than carpenter ants. Trails may lead to food sources, moisture sources, or hidden wall voids. Because species differ, correct identification prevents treating the wrong problem.

If ants continue returning after DIY attempts, the colony likely remains active. Contact Valley Inspections & Pests for professional ant control in Josephine and Jackson Counties and eliminate the infestation at its source.
